Wicker Man Oxford aims to encourage schools and organisations in Oxfordshire to participate in our 'grow your own willow' project. This will teach the children the process from planting, nurturing, enjoying and harvesting the willow and making use of the end product. Please see pictures above of Standlake School who with the assitance of a Willow Instructor and Teachers, Parents and year 5/6 pupils constructed their very own outside willow class room. If your school/organisation wish to find out more about participating in a course to learn how to plant a living willow structure please fill in our interest form click here.
As an additional project, we intend to encourage lantern processions around Oxfordshire from the willow project and encourage schools/organisations from their willow beds to harvest willow stems and make tissue lanterns. We are hoping to obtain grant funding to enable us to run various workshops around Oxfordshire, designed for teachers/community groups/parents to learn the skills to make and run a lantern procession within their local community, attracting people of all ages to participate. This is a very simple and effective way to engage communities together in a creative and social way. Wicker Man Oxford are currently developing a step by step guide on how to "make your own willow lantern".
If your school/organisation wish to find out more about participate in a workshop to learn how to make lanterns and organise your own lantern procession please fill in our interest form click here.
