Wicker Man Oxford - Sculpture Project is run by a team of dedicated volunteers, and its purpose is to build a very large Wooden/Wicker Sculpture by including Oxfordshire’s children in the design process. The finished sculpture will take a tour around Oxfordshire from May - October 2010. We hope to create a truly iconic sculpture which is then burnt at the Oxford Round Tables Charity Bonfire Display, South Parks on 6th November 2010. Funds raised through Wicker Man Oxford – Sculpture Project 2010 will support ROSY www.rosy.org.uk this year’s chosen charity. ROSY provide Respite nursing for Oxfordshire’s Sick/terminally ill Youngsters.
In recent years Wicker Man Oxford has been supported by local media, Oxford Round Table and Arts and Culture at Oxford City Council. This year we aim to expand the project by introducing the competition to Oxfordshire’s Schools and Scout organisations.
The winning designer will receive £100 and £200 for their school/organisation. There are two chances to win as uniquely there is also an internal metal sculpture which will reveal itself once the outer design burns away. details of our competition which closes on 31st March 2010.
2009 winner Joshua Webb 7 years summed up his experience of winning
“I was really amazed that I was in the newspapers and on the TV and all my family have copies. My school cut out the stories and put them up on the notice board for everyone to see”
"I also liked being in the special bit for the fireworks. Just before it all started I was allowed to walk in front of the crowd to have my photo taken and lots of people were shouting my name and giving me high fives. Lots of people were there watching my idea being burnt and it made me feel very special."
